Custom Long Flight

This flight is great and fairly easy to build, and not to expensive

for the do-it yourselfer

I believe that this flight aviary is one of the most enjoyable, because the birds can enjoy the protection of your roof overhangs to cool them on hot summer days, keep them warm and dry on cold wet winter days. Facing South or Southwest is the very best, you will not have to feel bad because of the weather conditions, unless you live in a very cold climate.

Let us begin with the first photo, The full length of the home facing the Southwest installed trellises, five feet from the home and right up to the eve's of the roof.

Sorry only thumbprints photos available on this page

This first photo shows the framework for the welded wire fabric. These trellises were purchased at a local garden store.

Outside the aviary rose vines were planted in pots, but you could plant them ground level drainage; to benefit from the great wash downs of the aviary. The roses are beautiful, but you can use the climbing vines you like, just be sure to check with your local bird club any plants you plan to put in the aviary. The vines and plants attract bugs that some finches need to raise their family, even I would get tired of mealy worms all the time.

It was just the lady of the house and I to put this neat backyard aviary together; I just charged my time and whatever she done she saved on this Custom built aviary.

Very important photo below to  use floor wire, if you do not have a concrete base and drainage. Is clamped together securely with clips and clip pliers. Then covered with more gravel and or sand. We do not want any underground visitors.

Unless they line up perfectly for clipping go ahead and tie wire the intersections of the floor and wall wire making sure that no ends of the tie wire is facing in through the out side wire fabric that could impale those fast flying birds.

The roof is tied in at the facia board and shot into the wood with air gun staples. Then bent over the end of the aviary and trimmed with end nippers.

If these terms are not familiar to you ask your hardware store man

The large rear door is for bringing in potted plants, branches

The small personal door off the deck left of the center of the photo right of the center is the corner kitchen window. All along the flight birds will fly past all the windows. Or perch in the branches and sun themselves. This is the only wire wall done in black wire so you can see real good through it the rest of the wire can stay silvery galvanize color to backlight your birds as they excise their right to fly

Looking back from inside the aviary it is planted and looking great

.

The red water dish is very handy to keep a constant water supply even when on trips. The way is works is the valve is weight sensitive so as the water is used or evaporated it will rise, this turns on the water till it fills then the weight of the water shuts it off. I also like the design its hard for birds to bathe in this their main drinking water.

It has been my pleasure to bring you this long flight aviary.
